Top cop claims to have cut crime by praying
PRAYER is cutting crime and saving lives, a senior cop has claimed.
Inspector Roger Bartlett arranges meetings where locals pray for their police.
The 44-year-old – part of the leadership team of the Christian Policing Association in Barnstaple, Devon – said they started praying for the poor 26 per cent crime detection rate in 2007.
It has since soared to more than 40 per cent.
He said “the most significant answer to prayer” saw fatal road accidents in North Devon fall from 97 to 32 in a year.
Insp Bartlett added: “Many who do not have the faith would say that this is just coincidence.
“From my experience, the more I pray, the more coincidences I seem to see.”
Assistant Chief Constable Paul Netherton stressed the “diverse” force accepted all faiths.
